Hailing from the land of traditional silk weavers, I was always in awe of the raw sophistication of this poor cousin of the much celebrated” SILK” On studying the silk route in Asia one realizes a certain co-relation between silk and Buddhism. To me, the most awe inspiring fact about the whole journey of silk is the way depiction of Lord Buddha changes patterns along the way in terms of its look as depicted in temples, the look of its followers, the garments worn by them.….My collection is made from 100% raw silk produced in Bhagalpur, Bihar, India. It's aimed at promoting the interest of Raw Bhagalpuri Silk fabric and smoothening its entry into domestic and international market. A most significant development happened at the same time as the Buddhist movement began to spread. From about the first century BC, Buddhism began its spread along the route from near Iran and India, along the borders of the Taklamakan desert. The two routes joined in North Western China Today, we call this way "the Silk Route", and we associate it with famous travelers like Marco Polo.Around second century BC the route was first established by the Chinese, venturing out in search of horses and trade. Buddhist monks also traveled with the traders along the way and soon Buddhist monasteries were everywhere along the route between India and China. My collection portrays the relgnalisation of buddhism the drapebility remaining the key feature and the fabrics and styling theat emerged while adapting itself to the counters people and climate.... Fabrics are inspired by Nature, look natural, but their simple aspect often involves highly complex creative processes. Textures and colours are the key elements.
